John F. Kennedy announces his candidacy for U.S. Representative from the 11th District.

He makes the announcement at a press conference at the Parker House. Despite his claim of residency in Boston, Richard Whalen subsequently describes him as “[I]n some ways, a stranger in the city of his birth.” During the campaign, James Michael Curley is reputed to have asked, “With those two names, Kennedy and Fitzgerald, how could he lose?”
